For over 70 plus years, ArcelorMittal Dofasco employees have donated over $40 million through the Employee Donations Fund. Every penny has gone to benefit organizations doing important work in our community. Managed by employees, the donation fund is our way of giving back directly to the Hamilton-Burlington-Niagara region by supporting the members of our community most in need. This has included causes like local food banks, health and social services, and children's programs.
The Dofasco Employee Donations Fund began in 1943 as the "Charity Chest" in support of the Red Cross during World War II. Formed by a committee of employees, the Charity Chest launched with an ambitious goal – 100% employee participation – and took to the shop floor and pages of the employee newspaper calling for coworkers to sign-up with a donation of 10 cents weekly. True to the Dofasco Way, pledge cards from across the company piled high at an incredible rate and before long the committee had achieved its objective.
