Today at approximately 12:15 p.m. a fire occurred on site at ArcelorMittal Dofasco.

The fire was contained and extinguished by Dofasco’s internal Fire Dept. and there were no injuries as a result of the fire.

The fire was in a conveyor belt system operated by a third party contractor that is used to screen coke (for sizing purposes). At the time of the fire, the conveyor was not in service as it was undergoing maintenance. Although, the fire was quickly contained by our internal fire department, it did cause a dark visible emission near the Blast Furnace area of Dofasco’s Bayfront property.

We reported the incident immediately to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Spills Action Centre. Our third party contractor will be conducting a Root Cause Analysis and we will provide further information if and when available.
