As part of ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s Coke Plant Restoration Program, the #3 Door Machine at #2 Coke Plant will undergo major refurbishment beginning Monday, March 20th (for approximately 11 days).

Door machines travel the length of the coke battery and remove coke oven doors to allow coke to be pushed out of the oven into a quench rail car for delivery to the quench station prior to being utilized in a blast furnace.

During the refurbishment, the #4 Door Machine will be in operation. While the #3 Door Machine is connected to a fume control system which captures fugitive pushing emissions, the #4 machine is not.  To address this, Coke Plant personnel will implement additional operating practices, including extending coking times if required, to minimize any visible emissions.

The Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change has been notified of this activity.
