ArcelorMittal Dofasco is conducting work to repair equipment and address Health & Safety requirements at No.2 Coke Plant Quench Tower.

The work will be conducted until Tuesday evening (June 20) and will require the baffles from the tower to be removed. The baffles remove any coke breeze that may have remained in the steam produced in the quenching process as it moves up the tower before venting to the atmosphere. We plan to remove all the baffles today, perform the necessary repairs, and replace the baffles tomorrow.  During this period, quenching frequency will be reduced by a scheduled Coke Oven Repair outage and by extending coking times. The Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change has been notified of this activity and we do not expect any environmental or community impact to result from this work.
