At our most recent CLC meeting on July 20th, we advised that ArcelorMittal Dofasco had requested additional time, to December 31, 2017, from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change to meet the rolling-average 30-day limits for door and off-take leaks from our #3 Coke Plant (#6 Battery) set out in Item 3.1 of Site-Specific Standard Order number 2015-15-order-rv0.

Subsequent to that request, AMD Environment and Cokemaking management met with representatives of the Ministry’s Standards Development Branch and Hamilton District Office to provide updates on the progress we have made and the activities planned to reduce emissions from the coke plants.

The Ministry acknowledged the work that AMD has been undertaking to reduce emissions from the coke plants, the challenges we face and the progress we have made.  Regardless, in a conference call meeting on Friday, the Ministry advised that it will not grant the additional time we requested.  They asked that we continue to work towards meeting the limits set out in the Order as soon as possible and provide regular updates to the Hamilton District Office.

We will continue to implement the tactics to reduce door and off-take leaks at #3 Coke Plant that we have previously identified and communicated to the Ministry and the CLC.  We will also continue to report our results to the CLC, the next meeting of which is at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 9th.
