Site Specific Standards consider risks to communities, available technology and/or economic issues and require improvements in environmental performance to be made over time.
Currently, ArcelorMittal Dofasco has Site Specific Standards for 5 compounds (Total Suspended Particulate (TSP), Total Reduced Sulphur (TSR), Benzo(a)pyrene, Benzene and Manganese). Emissions of each of these compounds from ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s site are currently below the MECP Standards established in 2015 and have all shown significant improvement (from 25 percent to 75 percent improvement).
In addition, ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s eventual transformation of the steelmaking process means that Benzene, Benzo(a)pyrene and Total Reduced Sulphur (TSR) would be eliminated from the process, while further reductions in Total Suspended Particulate (TSP) and Manganese would be realized. This transformation will result in a greener, safer environment for all.
In the meantime, the company respects Ontario’s regulations and will continue to operate within the Regulations. The company will also continue to invest in our assets and maintain our commitment to continuously improve – minimizing environmental impact.
ArcelorMittal Dofasco is committed to continuous improvement in every aspect of the company’s operations. The company has been in Hamilton for the past 111 years and continues to demonstrate its commitment to continuous improvement in all aspects of its business, planning and reacting appropriately and responsibly where there may be environmental or community impact from operations, positively contributing to the region, and being responsible corporate member of the Hamilton community.
