It’s Mental Health Week and we’re taking time to mark the week by speaking up. Here we share a letter to all employees from our Katrina McFadden, VP Corporate Administration and Human Resources

Colleagues,

ArcelorMittal Dofasco is once again joining the Canadian Mental Health Association, as well other organizations across Canada, to celebrate Mental Health Week May 1-7.

We support Mental Health Week because as a company we feel that we all have a responsibility to speak up about mental health. And we are in good company on that front with many other organizations taking lead roles in many different, and innovative, ways. Our product is steel and our strength is people, and your health and safety is our number one priority, both physical and mental health.

Most of us have a personal connection to mental illness. From a business perspective, depression, stress and anxiety are quickly becoming the leading causes of disability, affecting employees and their families. You know that we’ve had a special focus on mental health over the past few years – and this has allowed us to achieve a Canada Awards for Excellence silver recognition in Mental Health at Work. We’ve done a lot of work and made some key investments, but we know there is always more to do and we will continue to work to support your physical and mental health.

This week we are lighting up our Main Office green to shine a light on this significant issue. We also have many events and opportunities available during the week – you can find them listed below. Remember to Get Loud during the week by wearing green. You can send us your photos and we’ll share them on social media. Also use #GetLoud on social media all week and use your voice to raise awareness, build support and reduce the stigma of mental health issues.
