The strength of steel and the power of sport were on full display in Halifax, N.S. and Victoria B.C. this past weekend (March 9 – 12, 2017) with the eight best men’s and women’s university basketball teams in Canada fighting for gold. Both outcomes were inspiring, with the Carleton Ravens taking home their seventh national title in a row, while McGill brought its first ever Bronze Baby back to its Montreal campus. At home here in Hamilton, we couldn’t be more proud to stand behind these amazing student-athletes as the presenting sponsor of the tournaments.

Why? Our President and CEO Sean Donnelly puts it this way: “We’re proud to continue to play a role in ensuring that Canada’s student-athletes pursue their competitive sport dreams. We understand the power of sport – its ability to inspire, build community, build confidence and build leaders and we know that university athletics is a breeding ground for our next generation of Canadian leaders and those that will transform tomorrow.”

What makes our  company different is our people and our commitment to continuous improvement. This is embodied in our longstanding motto: Our product is steel. Our strength is people. Our steels are used in pretty much everything around you – your car, your house, your school, office… and they are in many cases transforming sectors with safer, lighter, stronger and more sustainable products. We aren’t satisfied with standing still and so we get behind people that espouse our commitment to continuously improving – to getting better every day through hard work, resilience and perseverance, including Canada’s student athletes.

Congratulations to the 2017 ArcelorMittal Dofasco Final 8 basketball champions!
