The Loran Scholars Foundation today announced four Hamilton area students as winners of the 2015 ArcelorMittal Dofasco Loran provincial awards.

LoranThese awards recognize students who have demonstrated character, service and leadership through the breadth and depth of their extracurricular activities and are valued at $2,000 each for undergraduate studies in Canada.

“The character, service and leadership these winners have shown in their school and community is impressive,” said Sean Donnelly, President and CEO, ArcelorMittal Dofasco. “Being in the top 3 per cent of Loran Award candidates is a testament to their accomplishments, and we couldn’t be happier to support and acknowledge this as they move to the next phase of their academic career at university.”

The 2015 ArcelorMittal Dofasco Loran Provincial Award recipients are:

  • Jess Di Pasquale, Grimsby, ON
  • Brian Lee, Hamilton, ON
  • Julia Mogus, Oakville, ON
  • Vincent Shadbolt, Ancaster, ON

Jess, Brian, Julia and Vincent were nominated by their schools and are in the top 3 per cent of the Loran Scholars Foundation’s nationwide pool of 3,800 applicants. As part of the foundation’s selection process, they were assessed and interviewed by local business and community leaders over the course of two months.

Loran Scholars Foundation

The Loran Scholars Foundation is a national charity that partners with 25 universities to invest in exceptional young Canadians. Each year, it selects 30 graduating high school or CEGEP students as Loran Scholars on the basis of character, service, and leadership potential. Loran Scholars receive a comprehensive undergraduate award valued at up to $100,000 over four years. The foundation also grants up to 80 finalist ($3,000) and provincial ($2,000) awards.
