ArcelorMittal Dofasco presents the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation with $500,000 and $10,000 at Burlington’s Sound of Music Festival

19042901076_712c9bb309_zOn Saturday June 20, Tony Valeri, VP Corporate Affairs took to the main stage at Burlington’s Sound of Music Festival to present the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation with $500,000 from Dofasco’s Corporate Community Investment Fund in support of the Hospital’s Our New Era campaign. In recognition of the gift, the new Ambulance Bay will be named for ArcelorMittal Dofasco.

The company also partnered with Burlington’s Sound of Music to offer festival goers ArcelorMittal Dofasco Sweet Seats, a premium hospitality and seating experience for shows throughout the weekend on the TD Stage. $10,000 was raised from sales with all proceeds benefiting the Maternal and Child Care Unit music therapy program at Joseph Brant.

“We are very pleased to provide support for Joseph Brant’s Our New Era campaign through our Corporate Community Investment Fund. At ArcelorMittal Dofasco our first priority is the health and safety of everyone working on our site,” Tony said. “We’re extending our commitment beyond our company and into the Burlington community through the development of a new Ambulance Bay at Joseph Brant which will help provide critical emergency care. The ArcelorMittal Dofasco Sweet Seats has been a tremendous success over the three years we’ve partnered with the Sound of Music to offer it to festival goers. It’s a win-win – guests get a premium festival experience, while all proceeds are invested back into the community.”

Anissa Hilborn, President, Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation had high praise for the investments.  “I’d like to thank ArcelorMittal Dofasco for their generous support of the Our New Era campaign. Their support of our Redevelopment recognizes the importance of access to quality health care for their employees.  The additional support for the Maternal and Child Unit music therapy program through their partnership with Burlington’s Sound of Music Festival is a tremendous boost to this innovative and important program.”

Dave Miller, Executive Director of the Sound of Music Festival says the company and the Festival have found an effective way to extend the impact of the Festival. “Our partnership with ArcelorMittal Dofasco to offer Sweet Seats has been a great opportunity to bring something back to the community from the Festival. It’s an amazing event that 200,000 people experience each year and the investment in the Music Therapy Program for infants extends the reach of the festival and its music even further.”

About Music Therapy

Studies show that music therapy decreases infant and parent anxiety during medical procedures, provides meaningful stimulation and supports development in infants. A Music Therapist with Accent Music Therapy visits the JBH Level 2B Nursery to gently play for the infants. The program has been well received by parents and their infants who may be facing challenges in the special care nursery.

About the Sound of Music Festival

Every year in June, Burlington comes alive with Sound of Music Festival. Thousands come to enjoy the biggest, family friendly, annual gathering of music by the lake and enjoy concerts spanning all genres. Due to the passion and cooperation of a volunteer board of directors, volunteer committees, a small staff, and a roster of generous sponsors and suppliers, Sound of Music has expanded considerably. We remain an annual tradition while engaging today’s youth through music and volunteerism. The festival organization plans the region’s biggest event of the year, playing host to well over 200,000 visitors each year. With so much to see and do, the event draws attendees of all ages. The focus of the event remains music. Learn more at www.soundofmusic.ca.
