At a presentation in Toronto this morning, ArcelorMittal Dofasco was the recipient of Canada Awards for Excellence’s Gold Level in the Healthy Workplace category. The company also achieved Level 1 certification in the Progressive Excellence Program Mental Health at Work® category.

Of the award, Excellence Canada’s President and CEO, Allan N. Ebedes, wrote:

A tremendous amount of hard work and commitment was required by everyone in your organization to become a recipient of Canada’s pre-eminent recognition program for organizational excellence. In meeting the rigour of the Canada Awards for Excellence criteria, your organization has demonstrated that it is one of the best managed in Canada. We commend you on your great success!”

The Healthy Workplace award was accepted by Bronko Jazvac, Director of Health and Safety and World Class Manufacturing. In accepting the award, Bronko explained ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s commitment to a healthy workplace:

“One of the foundations of our strategy is our focus on people.  This isn’t new… it’s a commitment that spans more than 100 years and is embodied in our iconic value;  “Our Product is Steel. Our Strength is People.” We strive to continuously improve our robust and comprehensive healthy workplace strategy, emphasizing wellness of mind and body, at home and work. This makes good business sense as we are able to continue on our pursuit of being a world class organization first and foremost through our strong, and healthy, people. Today’s recognition is a wonderful testament to the progress we’ve made and it is great inspiration to continue to improve.”

This is the second time that Dofasco has received the Healthy Workplace award, the first being a Gold status in 2002. ArcelorMittal Dofasco is the only steel company to receive the award and only one other manufacturer, Daimler Chrysler Canada, has received the award since 2000. There were 18 total Canada Awards for Excellence awarded this year.
