While we have previously been named as one of Canada’s Top Employers by Forbes, this is the first time we have made it onto Forbes’ annual list as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Diversity. We are one of three manufacturers who made the list, which ranks the organizations that are excelling in creating diverse, equitable and inclusive workplaces.

To compile the annual list, Forbes and market research firm Statista survey approximately 12,000 Canadians working for businesses with at least 500 employees. Participants are asked to evaluate their employer in areas such as age, gender, ethnicity, disability and LGBTQ+ equality, as well as diversity overall. The surveys are anonymous.

"We are honoured to be recognized by Forbes as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers! This is a testament to the people-focused culture that has been part of our company since it was founded in 1912. This culture has given us a solid foundation upon which we've been able to grow and evolve our Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) journey."

In addition to the survey, each company’s diversity-related best practices were analyzed. These included: the presence of employee resource groups; efforts to recruit minorities; the publication of diversity data; providing an accessible environment to people with disabilities; and the percentage of women in board and executive positions. Ultimately, all of these factors were scored, combined and ranked to create a list of the top 150 companies.

Being recognized by Forbes shows the value of our commitment to building a strong culture of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

"This recognition belongs to each and every one of our employees," says Lisa Marcuzzi (Vice President, Head of Corporate Affairs, Legal and Diversity & Inclusion). "We are honoured to be recognized by Forbes as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers! This is a testament to the people-focused culture that has been part of our company since it was founded in 1912. This culture has given us a solid foundation upon which we've been able to grow and evolve our Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) journey.

"D&I is directly supported by our leadership and is woven into the fabric of our workplace through our D&I team, D&I Champions and all of Dofasco. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made. We recognize that it’s a journey, and that we still have so much more we want to do to foster a more diverse and inclusive workplace culture, where everyone can succeed and thrive.

"We are committed to intentional action, constant learning and authentic engagement. One way to do this is by investing in a variety of long-term opportunities to learn, grow and develop D&I knowledge, awareness and understanding."
